We Close the Gap Between Rhetoric and Realization.

The VIRE Group is a Boston-based consulting firm working at the intersection of economic equity, community investment, procurement redesign, network activation, and organizational strategy.

We serve institutions that have made genuine commitments to equity and need the relationships, infrastructure, and strategic architecture to make those commitments real. Our work is not advisory in the abstract. It is grounded in authentic community relationships and a decade of proven results at the highest levels of civic, economic, and institutional life in Massachusetts.

We do not replicate what large firms offer. We add to the ecosystem the direct access to the communities, leaders, and networks that turn stated intentions into measurable outcomes.

Segun Idowu, Principal

Segun Idowu spent more than a decade building economic equity both within institutions and across our communities, delivering results that were measurable, lasting, and recognized across Massachusetts and beyond.

As Chief of Economic Opportunity & Inclusion for the City of Boston under Mayor Michelle Wu, he managed a $14.8 million operating budget and oversaw more than $35 million in federal and local funds. He reformed municipal procurement systems, doubling contract awards to diverse firms and increasing award values by 94% over three years, totaling $630 million. He designed and launched the SPACE Grant Program—recognized in Congress as a national model for the use of federal funds—awarding $10 million to 91 small businesses and supporting the retention or creation of 800 jobs.

Before City Hall, Segun served as President & CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA), where he transformed an under-resourced organization into a financially stable statewide institution, tripling its operating budget and directing policy efforts that resulted in $200 million flowing to minority-owned firms in a single fiscal year.

He is a cum laude graduate of Morehouse College, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and holds a certificate in Procurement Reform from the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.

The VIRE Group was founded to bring this depth of experience directly to institutions ready to move from commitment to impact.
